Fatherhood - How to change baby's diaper
How to change baby's diaper.
Most of the items we use are disposable, such as diapers and wipes.
We felt that all brands of diapers did a good job keeping in leaks. When a diaper did leak, it was most likely due to us not putting it on properly. I would suggest getting the least expensive diaper and change frequently, like once every 2 or 3 hours.
Costco diapers are a great bargain at 14 cents per diaper. If you have coupons, I found that Target sold diapers at a good price too. Target diapers came out to be roughly 18 cents per diaper.
We use a contour changing pad. On it, we would always have a diaper liner. Above the liner would be a sheet of paper tower. This is just in case I didn't keep our son's but raised high enough and it smudges the cloth, I rather it smudges on the tower than the liner. This way, I wouldn't have to keep changing the liner. I change the power tower at every diaper change and change the diaper liner once a day.
I would always keep a kleenex over our son's penis. This contains the open air accidents to a small area and the diaper liner does a good job absorbing his pee.

Hi Rene,
ReplyDeleteI started responded to your question and realized how extensive it can get. I'll have to post a follow-up video on YouTube.
Check out my YouTube Channel. If you like it, please subscribe.

If you haven't already, sign up for Amazon Mom program. It's free and when you use Amazon Subscribe & Save, you save an additional 5% on baby items.
I've ordered so much items from Amazon but I'll try to list what I think are essentials and money savers.
My wife and I didn't buy many of the baby items before birth. It was because at her baby shower, her friends gave us a lot of unused items that they purchased for their child but never used. It's easy to get caught up in the excitement before the arrival of the baby and go on a shopping spree.
If you have a smartphone, I suggest installing the Amazon app. I use it to scan items at Target and CVS to see if Amazon carries it and for how much. For example, the vitamin, Tri-Vi-Sol, was cheaper at Target.
I would suggest adding items to your Amazon wishlist and monitor the prices before purchasing because they fluctuate. For example, the Babybjorn stool I recently purchased 2 weeks ago now cost $5 more.
I got the 2 sided contour changing pad made by Simmons. The link is http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00260GN0I/ref=oh_o06_s00_i00_details
I should have gotten a 3 sided one because my son's a kicker. I'm afraid of him kicking himself off the pad if I turn my head.
The changing pad liners are made by Boppy and I got them at Baby R Us, $12.99. Across the street is a BuybuyBaby and they charge $1 more.
Even though Amazon sells the Safety1st Ultrasonic Humidifier, they charge shipping because it's sold through Target. You might as well buy it from Target directly.
If there isn't a Costco or Target near you, Amazon has inexpensive diapers using Subscribe & Save. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002YD8DOG/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details
We recently got a stool so that it's easier for my wife's back. She doesn't need to bend down for long periods, like when washing our son or watching him in his swing. We got the Babybjorn stool because of the rubber foot grips and it only cost $14.96.

If you have the room for a swing, I would suggest something simple like the Fisher Price Cradle N Swing. http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Cradle-Swing-Little/dp/B0018Z6910/ref=br_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=I3GAAKI8CZ5C57&colid=8ZO1JRMQ7DTH
When we got it, it was selling for $100. I just checked and it's now going for $90.
I'll definitely have to make a video on the items I purchased.
Thanks for commenting and congratulations!
